The landlocked  Slovakia is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. Braatislava is the largest city and capital.  Kosice si second largest. Slovakia is a member of the European Union, NATO, United Nations, OCED, and WTO.  The oldest archaeological artifacts are from around 270,000 BC. The Carpathian Mountains extend across most of the northern half of the country. Major Slovak rivers are the Danube, the Bah, and the Hron.
